Make-It Mondays
10-2pm
At the MIKI'SIW Office
Do you have an ongoing project (crochet, beading, sewing, etc) and would enjoy some company while working?
Or are you working on a project and need some guidance/help?
Or would you like to learn how to get started?
Starting September 8th, Lorna Adams will be hosting “Make-It Mondays” at the MIKI’SIW office from 10-2pm.
Bring your supplies and creativity as you socialize and grow in community.
5th Annual Spirit Walk
At this year’s Spirit Walk we walked as one from Harmston Park to Lewis Park.
It was a ‘sea of orange’ as we all walked down 5th Street together.
We want to say a special thank you to everyone who helped make this event happen and to all the volunteers who helped it run smoothly.
Thank you.

November 8th is Indigenous Veterans Day.
The day was first inaugurated by the National Aboriginal Veterans Association on 1993 and first observed nationally in 1994. A separate day acknowledging our Indigenous veterans was created in response to the exclusion of Indigenous veterans from mainstream Remembrance Day ceremonies, such as being unable to lay a wreath.
This day honours the significant military contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples in Canada’s wars and peacekeeping missions. It also acknowledges the unique challenges these veterans faced, including travelling long distances to enlist, dealing with racism, and facing systemic injustices even after returning from service.
We are humbled and honoured to acknowledge and thank all of our current, retired, and resting military veterans.

It is Métis Week in Canada from November 10-16, with November 16th being Louis Riel Day!
In honour of Métis Week, the various municipalities will be having a flag raising ceremony and our Métis flag will fly for the week. And we would love our Métis community to have the opportunity to participate. Here are the dates and times:
19 Wing Comox Base Entrance: November 10th, Time TBD
Cumberland Town Hall: November 12th at 10am
Courtenay City Hall: November 12th at 11am
Comox Town Hall: November 12th at 1145am

November 16th is Louis Riel Day - a celebration of a man who dedicated his life to protecting Métis rights, culture, and land.
On November 16th, we are going to gather together to honour Louis Riel’s legacy and celebrate our Métis culture.
Lunch will be served, along with music, Michif Bingo, and Spin the Wheel Trivia!
And for the first time, we will be having a bannock showdown! Bake your bannock and bring it to the gathering. We will let the taste testing judges decide who will walk away with the title of King or Queen of Bannock!
RSVP by November 13th by emailing the office.
